I have wanted to have honeybees for as long as I can remember. I am, and have always been, fascinated with nature. I am creating this page so that friends, patients, former students, and anyone else to whom this might be interesting will able to see some of my experiences with the bees. I also want to have place to post my observations and trials for my own review. So far being a novice beekeeper has been a blast. I tell my Dad, weekly, that having the bees is much better than a fish tank.
Another reason I am keeping bees is environmental. At one time I thought I was an environmentalist. That was until I met some of the people that owned American modern environmentalism. I quicky found out that I was much more a sportsman than an environmentalist. I definately did not want to lock up and hide natural resources from people. After I learned that the European Honeybee was being wiped out by disease and pests I decided that I too should become a beekeeper and keep atleast one colony at my house. I would like to be part of the revival of home beekeeping.
Another reason I have become a beekeeper is that I need an escape activity that will allow me to fully concentrate on something else. Just watching the bees is relaxing. Thus far hive tending takes all my concentration when I am among the bees. I especially like that I do not have to leave the yard to have my take my mental break.
I appreciate the complexity of beekeeping. There is stuff to do, there are things to assemble, and there is a mechanics of keeping a ranch of bees.
